Your smile is central to your appearance, and perhaps your self concept. For that reason periodontists are always concerned about the effects of age, periodontal disease and periodontal treatment on the attractiveness of your smile. In many cases our concern is to preserve the youthful appearance of your gingiva and smile throughout periodontal treatment. In other cases the treatment objective is to improve the appearance of your smile, even when no significant periodontal disease is present. The appearance of your smile can be complicated by crowded teeth, traumatic damage, periodontal disease (now, or in the past), obsolete dentistry, smoking and many other factors.
